BA (Hons) 2D Digital Animation
This course brings traditional, time-honoured animation techniques bang up to date with the latest digital software. You will write and develop, script and storyboard your own productions – planning, creating artwork for, and directing your films.
You will animate using Disney techniques. The tutors have all had amazing experience as professional animators. You will be taught in our award-winning Film and Media building with spaces dedicated to the course and easy access to the neighbouring workshops and social facilities at the Art Gallery of the School of Creative Arts.
You will concentrate on developing the essential skills you will need throughout the course, including character design, narrative, animation and drawing. At the same time, animation and film histories will add context to your study. As the year ends you will have the opportunity to switch to one of the other three degree routes within the programme.
During the Second Year you will develop the individuality and illustrative style demanded by today’s industry. Working with actors and mime artists, you will gain an understanding of character emotions and movement and how to apply this to your animation. Simulating real-world briefs, the course also explores title stings, idents and interactive media. At the end of the year, you will be able to put everything you have learnt into practice as you create a short animated film.
The Final Year is geared towards preparing you for a fascinating career in animation. You will carry out a final film project from start to finish, taking it from pre-production, storyboard and animatic through production and post-production. You will also produce a showreel and a professional website in preparation for work.
