The event is divided into two halves. In the morning there is a great line up of industry speakers form leading Film visual effects, Games and TV industries.

Last year’s speakers included Graham Ralph CEO of Silver Fox Films, Louise Ridgeway Head of Animations at Rare Games, Anthony CG Supervisor on Headcases at Red Vision, Mike Bambury Lead Artist at Sony Entertainment Europe, Framestore VFX Supervisor on the Golden Compass and Jon Taylor Lead Artist at KUJU.

The afternoon holds our prestigious animation film showcase, containing the very best 3D, Games and 2D animated movies from our graduating class. These films are in stiff competition with each other to win top prizes decided upon by a distinguished panel of industry judges. Last year the audience was over 400 people and close to capacity, the day is free to all but seats in high demand so arrive on time to avoid disappointment, and having to watch on the large screen outside.

The exhibition afterwards is a chance for all industry professionals and recruiters to meet the very best of our 2010 graduating animation students over nibbles and a glass of bubbly. At the same time there will also be all the other UH Art & Design / Film Music and Media graduates exhibiting their final degree pieces, Fine artists, Graphic designers, through to Model Design students.

Location:
The event is held in the Weston Auditorium on the Hatfield DeHavilland Campus; with seating for 450 people. Very close to London.
Nearest train station is ‘Hatfield’ (only 20 min’s from London Kings Cross)

Ba (Hons) 3D Digital Animation | Ba (Hons) Visual Effects

The digital animation programme equips students with the high level of skills needed to succeed in today’s animation industry. It emphasizes creativity, character design, story, cinematography, VFX and compositing 3D and Games Art; all channelled through the advanced software skills needed to achieve inventive and engaging animation. These programmes develop digital modelling and character animation skills, virtual lighting and virtual camera work, exposing students to the latest professional 3D animation practices. The students create short animated final films or fully playable games levels. Employment opportunities include computer animation companies, work with games, TV and film special effects companies. Our graduated students have worked and freelanced with some of the world’s best known production and post production houses.

Calling all graduates, Alumni and indsutry friends of the University of Hertfordshire digital animation degree…

The class of 2009 will graduate on the 16th of November 2009 in the St Albans Cathederal. To celebrate this we are throwing our annual Graduate, Alumni and Industry Cocktail mixer

We are will be hiring / taking over the O’Niels bar on Victoria street from 6pm unitl late. This is only a short walk from St Albans station (20mins from Kings Cross)

There will be a current graduate showcase running on the screens and a Free* Bar/buffet put on for industry and returning alumni. (*free until we use the bar tab up so dont be too late)  This is a great chance to reconnect with old friends and make new contacts.

Last years was a excellent with a lot of old faces returning to the fold. Please pass this date and event on to any ex University of Hertfordshire Animation students and bring any industry people you are now working with.

Eyeon has given the University of Hertfordshire Digital Animation Degrees a prestigious SWAT Certification. This means that all of the degree courses passed with the high standards required to be accredited as an official training facility for Eyeon products (Fusion, Generations)

The Digital Animation Degrees include 3D Digital Animation, 2D Digital Animation, Visual Effects and Games Art use Fusion as their main compositing package.

2009 Graduation Animation Exposé @ MPC

The University Of Hertfordshire Digital Animation Programme will be presenting their best graduating students of 2009 this Friday 24/7/09.

The show will contain a showcase at least 10 of the best short animated films from the previous years graduates. Including work from 3D Digital Animation, 2D Digital Animation, Games Art and Visual effects short films. The showcase will also include a few classics from our past students as well.

Many of these films have gone on to be nominated and win national and international competition.

The event is open to all interested parties, industry, recruiters and of course University of Hertfordshire Alumni.

There will be a drinks reception and of course being a Friday evening in central SOHO a few drinks afterwards.

We hope to see you there and help us celebrate a fantastic year of work from some very talented graduates.

World War and Alienated both Win!

Congratulations to Vincent, Krissy and Aqeel whose films both won awards at 2009 Animex festival. Vincent’s film World War won the Games Art Award and Krissy and Aqeel’s film Alienated won the Visual Effects Award.
Very impressive to see how UH work is rated in relation to other European student films this year, and even greater that the judges were from Disney, SIGGRAPH, Sony Pictures Animation, Framestore, Aardman and EA games.

Well done, here’s to more success in future

World War – Vincent Chai wins Best Animation Award at Festival Filem Malaysia (21st Malaysian Film Festival)

Vincent Chai who also graduated this year from the University of Hertfordshire’s Digital Animation Programme recently won the Best Animation Award with his film World War at Festival Filem Malaysia, the largest film and animation award show in Malaysia, beating a host of film and TV production companies in the process.

Two recent graduates of the Digital Animation programme at the University of Hertfordshire made it to the final twelve films to be shown at the Virgin Media Shorts awards at the BFI in London on September 29th with their third year film, Alienated. Alienated is a tale of an alien called Al, and his attempts to blend in and be accepted by human society. It mixes humour with an underlying message about the difficulties that people face when they move from one society to an alien one. Alienated was the only student film that made the final shortlist, the rest of the films were from production companies.

The graduates were awarded a 35mm film print copy of their animation, presented to them by Johnny Vaughn and Oscar nominated director Daniel Barber. The Oscar winning Actor and Director Kevin Spacey watched their film as well as many other notable members of the UK’s film and television industry.

Their film will now be shown in 200 Virgin Cinemas across the UK before the main feature of the evening.
